Key Details

A 22-year-old man was arrested in Rohingya Camp-06 with 3,820 Yaba tablets and handed over to Ukhiya Police. The case has raised renewed questions over the large-scale drug supply entering the refugee camps and the networks operating behind it.

Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar: A Yaba drug trader has been arrested with a large quantity of Yaba tablets in Rohingya Camp-06 following a tip-off, according to a statement released by the 14 Armed Police Battalion.

On the evening of September 29, around 6:05 pm, police received confidential information that people were gathering at the shelter of Anisul Mostafa in Block B/2 of Camp-06 (under Noukarmath Police Camp) to buy and sell drugs. Acting on the tip and under the direction of Police Inspector (Unarmed) Mohammad Masudur Rahman, Operations Officer of Noukarmath Police Camp, a team led by SI (Unarmed) Md. Nurul Islam Majumder, along with ASI (Unarmed) Md. Abdur Razzaq and other personnel quickly reached the spot.

When the group sensed the police approaching, they tried to run. Officers managed to catch one of them, Anwar Sadek, 22, son of Abdul Jabbar and Nur Jahan (FCN-143432, Block B/3, Camp-06). He could not give a clear reason for attempting to flee. He told police that Anisul Mostafa, 27, son of Zakir Ahmed (FCN-123266, Block B/2, Camp-06), had also been present at the scene.

Anwar Sadek later admitted he had come there to buy Yaba tablets from Anisul Mostafa. A search of the black polythene bag he was carrying in his right hand recovered 3,820 Yaba tablets. The tablets were packed in eight white zipper polythene packets — seven packets containing 500 tablets each (total 3,500) and one packet containing 320 tablets.

Police prepared a seizure list at the scene and took Anwar Sadek into custody. The accused and the recovered tablets were later handed over to Ukhiya Police Station with reference to GD No. 747/26 dated 29 September 2026 of Noukarmath Police Camp. Ukhiya Police Station registered Case No. 89 dated 29 September 2026 under Sections 36(1), 10(b) and 41 of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. Police are continuing efforts to locate the others who fled the scene.

Where Does Such a Huge Number of Yaba Drugs Come From into the Rohingya Refugee Camps?

The question regarding the Yaba drugs network across the refugee camps always remains unanswered. It is a refugee camp where over a million Rohingya people are living. Ordinary people often face various forms of suffering, such as man-made crises, which are worse than the effects of natural disasters on the community. In the rainy season, most fear landslides and floods. In the winter season, most suffer from the cold as they live under tarpaulin plastics with limited clothing. And in the hot seasons, they continue to suffer from heatwaves as there is no ventilation, no trees, and no big spaces to feel the air of nature.

In such a situation, they are also struggling with and experiencing man-made disasters created by the Yaba drugs dealers. There are many armed groups across the camps recently under the slogan of fighting for Arakan, but most of them are only dedicated to their Yaba drugs dealings.

There are no machines or factories for Yaba drugs production in the Rohingya refugee camps, yet huge sacks of Yaba drugs enter the camps. This is a network of Yaba drugs dealings coming from Myanmar and entering across the borders from the Naf River to Mizoram and Nagaland.

Here is the question: who is actually sending these huge quantities of Yaba drugs into Bangladesh and how? To understand this, we have to know who is present in Arakan State currently. Almost the entire Arakan State, or nearly 90% of it, is now under the control of the Arakan Army (AA), which has killed thousands of Rohingya Muslims, destroyed their belonging properties along with other minorities such as the Mro, Chakma, and Hindus after gaining control of Arakan State. Therefore, it is now considered a violent or terrorist armed group by the citizens of Myanmar and world communities and it is formed with only Rakhine buddhists.

The answer is obviously simple: the terrorist Arakan Army (AA) is sending all these Yaba drugs into Bangladesh through its proxy servers or proxy networks, which include armed groups and some small networks of Yaba dealers around the border operating with small weapons.

These Yaba drugs dealing networks include the Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO), Arakan Rohingya Army (ARA), Arakan Rohingya Organization (ARO), and some other small factions of armed groups across the borders, which are mixed of both host community members and Rohingya refugees.

The Arakan Army delivers these Yaba drugs through these proxies across the borders, and they bring them into the refugee camps and to dealers across Bangladesh.

The Rohingya Monitor has observed the big profiles of Yaba drugs dealers living inside the Rohingya refugee camps, taking control of armed power and giving them weapons, using that power, and living their desired luxurious lives while ordinary people are suffering from both their crimes and natural disasters, and while some are starving.

Without stopping and securing the borders from the entry of Yaba drugs into Bangladesh, these Yaba drugs deals will not be stopped, and it may destroy the entire nation of Bangladesh along with the Rohingya community. We see that almost most of the people in the Rohingya refugee camps and Bangladesh have already been destroyed.

There are huge crimes and perpetrators across the camps and Bangladesh-wide. The Rohingya Monitor will continue to investigate and report with evidence and actual information concerning the Rohingya.
