Key Details

A 32-year-old Rohingya woman, Sufaira, was allegedly raped by RSO member Mohammed Elias in Camp 14 early on 26 October 2026 after he forced entry into her shelter. Nearby residents caught him, but other armed RSO members rescued him and took him to Camp 11. Cases of rape by RSO members have risen over the past four years.

Camp 14, Cox’s Bazar — A 32-year-old Rohingya woman was allegedly raped by an active member of the Rohingya Solidarity Organization in Camp 14 in the early hours of 26 October 2026.

Rohingya Monitor’s investigation identified the victim as Sufaira, a resident of Block 7 in Hakim Para, Camp 14. The alleged perpetrator is Mohammed Elias, son of Horu, from Hasar Bill in Arakan, Myanmar. He is reportedly an active member of the RSO according to their movements and activities in the camps and he was immediately protected by the RSO group.

According to the investigation, Sufaira’s husband, Zenoraing, 36, had gone outside the camps for work, leaving her alone in their shelter.

Mohammed Elias entered her shelter at around 1:30 a.m. He cut the tarpaulin beside the door and forced his way inside. He then attempted to engage in sexual activity with her. Sufaira refused. Despite her clear refusal, he raped her by force at around 2:00 a.m. He remained inside the shelter for about 30 minutes.

During the assault, Sufaira screamed loudly. Nearby residents gathered around her shelter and managed to catch Mohammed Elias. They tried to take action against him, but other RSO members arrived almost immediately and took him to Camp 11, which is widely known as the headquarters of the RSO.

Because of his affiliation with the RSO, the public was unable to hold him accountable on the spot after he was caught.

Two other alleged RSO members later arrived carrying firearms and rescued him from the crowd. They then took him away.

Residents of Block 7 told Rohingya Monitor that Mohammed Elias had been involved in a similar incident in Block 8 of Camp 14 last year. In that case another woman was allegedly raped by him, and her husband later divorced her.

Rohingya Monitor independently verified the current report through its monitoring team. The findings show that Sufaira did not consent and that the assault was carried out by force.

After the incident Mohammed Elias fled to Camp 11 to hide. Residents of Camp 14 Block 7 are currently searching for him to take action again.

The case raises serious concerns about the safety of women and the lack of accountability for RSO armed group members inside the refugee camps. Rohingya Monitor received information of violence against vulnerable people across the camps at least one case a day of decoity, murder, aggravated assault, stealing, rape and many more.

The meaning is clear, but the wording needs correction for grammar, sensitivity, and professionalism.

Especially, cases of rape by armed RSO members have increased significantly over the last four years. Rohingya Monitor has information of an alleged rape of a mentally disabled woman in Camp 10 by members of both the RSO and ARA. Our team is investigating this case deeply to understand the perpetrators and the nature of the crimes.
