RSO members abducted and severely assaulted NGO volunteer Shamsu Alom in Camp 8W on 23 October 2026. Around 20 attackers beat him with sticks and rods at a football field and tried to kill him. He was later released after police intervention and is now receiving medical treatment.

A Rohingya NGO volunteer was abducted and severely assaulted by members of the Rohingya Solidarity Organization in Camp 8W on the night of 23 October 2026.

Rohingya Monitor identified the victim as Shamsu Alom, 30, a resident of Main Block D, Sub Block A-36. He works as an NGO volunteer.

According to the investigation, two RSO members first came to his house around 10:00 p.m. and told him to accompany them to the Majhi’s house. After he left his house, more people joined the group. They threatened him at gunpoint and took him to a football field in Camp 8W.

At the football field, around 20 RSO members continued the attack. They punched and kicked him and beat him with wooden sticks and rods. The attackers reportedly tried to kill him during the assault.

The incident came to the attention of the police. When the police contacted the group and asked why Shamsu Alom had been taken, the alleged perpetrators released him at the Head Majhi’s house. He returned home around 1:00 a.m. on 24 October.

Local residents said he would likely have been killed if the attack had continued longer.

APBN police knew the case and silently skipped the case with no actions against the perpetrators. In the meantime, the victim also feared and didn’t file any case against the perpetrators.

Shamsu Alom is currently receiving medical treatment for the injuries he sustained. RSO members warned him not to tell anyone about the incident. He remains extremely frightened and has not filed a formal complaint with the Camp-in-Charge or the police due to safety concerns.

He is not sharing details of the perpetrators because he fears further attacks. As of today’s latest update, he has not filed any case with the Camp-in-Charge or the police, fearing that the information might be leaked and lead to renewed attacks by the RSO.

The perpetrators of the attack have been identified but have not been publicly named for the victim’s protection.

Camps in Balukhali, Kutupalong and Thaingkhali are currently experiencing a high number of violent incidents involving armed groups active in the camps, including the RSO, ARA, ARO and other factions.
