COX’S BAZAR, Bangladesh, October 15, 2026 — A delegation from the United Council of Rohingya (UCR) met with members of Bangladesh’s Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and representatives of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) to discuss Rohingya repatriation, access to higher education, refugee protection and humanitarian assistance.

According to a UCR statement published Thursday, the delegation included members of the organisation’s President’s Panel and Executive Committee, along with male and female youth representatives.

During the meeting, UCR representatives stressed that the safe, voluntary and dignified return of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar remains their long-term goal. They also called for urgent action to expand higher education opportunities for Rohingya students living in Bangladesh’s refugee camps.

The delegation highlighted barriers facing students who have completed Grade 12 through community-based high schools. It called for recognition of their educational certificates so they can apply to universities and other recognised institutions.

Mr. Shajan Choundhury, a member of parliament, said he would contact Myanmar’s ambassador to discuss the recommendation to recognise certificates issued by community-based high schools, according to the UCR statement.

The meeting also covered protection concerns, access to essential services and the need to maintain humanitarian assistance for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

UCR called for continued cooperation between the Bangladesh government, relevant authorities, humanitarian organisations and Rohingya representatives to address refugees’ immediate needs while pursuing conditions for a sustainable return to Myanmar.

The organisation said education, protection and humanitarian support remain essential to safeguarding the dignity and future of the Rohingya community.
